Healing the family system as a whole, is critical in helping the troubled child. My intention and goals are to provide the focus and resources that are needed to help parents have the confidence and the tools to navigate the tough terrain of raising challenging adolescents and young adults.
I have worked in a wide variety of clinical settings over the last 20 years, from the wilderness milieu to outpatient services, addictions treatment, and transitional support. I have acquired clinical experience working with a multitude of populations specifically adolescents, young adults, their parents and support parents. I have become an expert in the field of providing effective parent coaching to parents as preventative support, as well as parents who are utilizing outpatient treatment or out of home treatment and providing guidance when they transition their children home.
I have worked nationally for the majority of my career, helping parents navigate the challenges of being a parent, especially when they find themselves in a place of struggling to find their parenting position. My goal is to bring my work here, to the Yampa Valley, to support parents within our community.
Here are some specific areas that we can work towards in our work together;
~ Creating an effective approach in walking alongside parents during any type of treatment process their child is in.
~ Helping parents get more of their own needs met and to guide parents with managing their own anxieties and
struggles so they can truly support their child’s therapeutic process and ultimate changes.
~ Helping parents find their true parenting position to allow them to respond to challenging situations vs. react to them.
~ To assist parents in identifying and assessing strengths.
~ Enhancing the co-parenting team, whether split or intact.
~ Helping parents increase their self-awareness and identify patterns that are impacting their parenting.
~ Identify creative strategies for current parenting struggle areas that will benefit the entire family system.
~ Increasing a parent’s confidence in their parenting.
~ Develop more effective communication skills.
~ Assisting parents in identifying and creating their own expectations and commitments.
~ Helping parents find their parenting position, increasing their success in identifying and maintaining their own
boundaries.
~ Helping parents obtain and maintain an appropriate, collaborative relationship with their older adolescent or young
adult child.
