My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that we are all creative individuals who seek balance between body, mind, and spirit. I treat the entire person, helping individuals find inherent wisdom and strength within. I also trust people can discover, create, and re-create toward wholeness. Creativity is life affirming, and it resides in all of us. My style is holistic, yet practical. It seeks change that is solid and transferable.

In session, the creative process is combined with traditional psychotherapy. Art materials, such as, paints, clay, markers, or oil pastels are used. Sometimes we access your creativity in other ways, like guided meditation and discussing dreams. We also talk in session, and I may suggest an exercise to do at home during the week. This way you can practice new skills and behaviors outside of the therapeutic space.

This approach may help you:

  • Provide a catharsis and simultaneously "see" the problem objectively.
  • Gain a fresh perspective and discover new ways to resolve the conflict.
  • Express yourself fully, especially when words and memories no longer seem effective.
  • Awaken latent images and symbols inside you which inform your healing (much like dream work).
  • Feel connected to a deeper part of yourself; one that is beyond your familiar words and ways of being.

You don’t have be an artist to participate! Also, I am dually trained, in both art therapy and traditional counseling. If you do not want to make art, you do not have to. I will always follow your pace and only nudge you when it will facilitate your goals.

My approach works well for children or adults who have:

  •  Trouble articulating their feelings.
  • Witnessed and/or experienced trauma & abuse.
  • Anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem.
  • Had a recent life transition; a move, loss, adoption, divorce.
  • Issues related to childhood; sensory processing and attachment
